NetFlix introduces new plans - probably not going to work in your favor.

I've been a big fan of NetFlix, but it seems as though prices keep going up. Today NetFlix announced new plans and pricing. What they've done is split the streaming and DVD plans so that if you only want one it'll be cheaper, ofcourse, but if you want both it's going to cost more. In their announcement, they make two arguments for the change, first they say that it is unfair to charge clients that only want streaming more because of the streaming + DVD plan, and secondly they state that offering DVD on top of streaming for only $2 more doesn't make financial sense. Both of these arguments aren't really true however.

The problem with both of these statements is that, NetFlix did offer a streaming only plan. So those customers were ok. Now as for customers that wanted DVD+Streaming. They were only paying $2 more, but really I don't see it as streaming for $7.99 and $2 extra for DVD. I'm sure it was really the other way around.

So for those of us that want the DVD + Streaming option. What options do we have? We could go for one of the standalone plans, but is streaming only going to offer all of the movies you can get via DVD/Blu-ray? I'm pretty sure it's not. So you're going to end up limiting yourself to what's available. If you go the DVD only route, you're going to end up missing the ability to instantly watch what streaming has available. If you get both, well you're going to pay about %60 more than you used to. My plan is changing from $11.99 (plus tax) to $17.98 (plus tax). I guess we could also just leave NetFlix, but what other company or group of companies can really offer the same services?
