LIMBO on PSN now

UPDATE (price information) Playdead's LIMBO is now available on the PSN marketplace for $15 (or $12 if you're a PS Plus member). Limbo is a 2D sidescroller, which incorporates physics into the dangerous environments and traps you as an unknown boy must overcome in a search for his sister.

Released as an XBOX Arcade last year, Limbo received much praise from the gaming community for it's artistic take on the videogame puzzle/platforming genre. The game is presented primarily in monochromatic black-and-white tones, using lighting, film grain effects and minimal ambient sounds to create an eerie atmosphere often associated with the horror genre.

Although most enjoyed it's style, some found the game too short, and without any real sotry or ending. A few other criticisms were due to what Playdead called the "trial and death" style of play. Which usually meant, you died several visually gruesome deaths before finding the correct solution. The game does have a really well done checkpoint system, which saves the game just before each one of these deadly puzzles. Also there is no apparant load times before you are returned to the point just before your death. With both of these elements it's hard to become frustrated at failing.

I found that, while the first half of the game is its best, the gameplay, and overall sense of what was going on was worth my time. I did not feel cheated, and was glad to have had this experience. Ofcourse I don't remember the game costing $15 either. With this new pricing information, I think you may want to wait until this goes on sale for $10 or less.
